The Folk Dance Group of Anadolu University's Folklore Research and Application Center showcased Turkey's rich cultural heritage at the 48th Burgos International Festival in Spain, earning international acclaim.

Participation in the Prestigious Burgos Festival The student folk dance group from Anadolu University's Folklore Research and Application Center made a brilliant appearance at the 48th edition of the International Folklore Festival of the City of Burgos (Festival Internacional de Folclore Ciudad de Burgos), held from July 14 to 18, 2026, in Spain. Recognized as one of the oldest and most prestigious cultural events in Europe, this festival provided a platform for gathering diverse cultures from around the world. By participating in this event, the young artists of Anadolu University raised not only the name of their university but also the Turkish flag in one of the most important artistic circles of the Green Continent. Live Music and Display of Rich Anatolian Heritage The group's programs were conducted under the strict supervision of a team of prominent experts. Ahmet Şamil Erkoçak, Deputy Director of the Folklore Research Center, was responsible for overall coordination, while Dr. Mustafa Uluyol served as the dance instructor, overseeing the precision of movements and the authenticity of performances. One of the group's strengths that drew critical acclaim was the use of live music. The Turkish folk music orchestra, led by Hasan Uğur Önlü, breathed new life into the dance performances by playing traditional instruments. The display of diverse dances from various regions of Anatolia, accompanied by meticulously reconstructed traditional costumes, captivated the Spanish audience. [2]

Side Activities and Cultural Interactions Anadolu University's presence in Burgos was not limited to stage performances. Members of the group participated in street parades (cortege) held in the historic center of Burgos, interacting directly with locals and tourists. These activities provided a unique opportunity to directly introduce Turkish customs, attire, and hospitality to the international community. Participation in cultural workshops and exchanging experiences with artistic groups from other countries were among the other achievements of this trip, significantly contributing to strengthening cultural ties between nations. Cultural Diplomacy and Anadolu University's Goals This successful trip is part of Anadolu University's grand strategy for internationalization and strengthening cultural diplomacy. By utilizing the artistic capacities of its students, Anadolu University demonstrated that higher education is not limited to classrooms, but that preserving and promoting national cultural heritage on global stages is also a top priority for this institution. Success at the Burgos 2026 festival proved once again that art and culture are common languages that can spread friendship and mutual understanding between nations beyond geographical borders. Importance of International Experience for Students Participating in such international events provides a unique opportunity for students' personal and professional growth, in addition to the artistic aspects. By being in a multicultural environment, students strengthened their communication skills and became familiar with global standards in the field of performing arts. This experience allowed them to present a positive image of the dynamism of Turkish society as young ambassadors. The university management also emphasizes the importance of experiential learning and active presence in international forums by supporting these activities. [2]
