The Ankara Administrative Court will soon issue an "urgent" ruling that could alter the fate of 2.4 million YKS 2026 candidates. This case has become the most challenging educational issue of the year.

Today, June 27, 2026, the eyes of millions of Turkish students and families are fixed on a branch of the Ankara Administrative Court. A lawsuit filed by a candidate named Abdullah Güner has now reached a stage that could overturn the entire results of the Turkish Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) [1].

Details of the Lawsuit and the Challenge of the GPA Score (OBP) At the core of this legal controversy is the "Secondary School Success Score," known as OBP. The plaintiff claims that applying this score to the final exam ranking contradicts the principle of equality in the Constitution. According to him, private schools cause unfair ranking shifts through "grade inflation" and by giving unrealistic grades to their students [2]. Güner took the matter to court after failing to receive a satisfactory response from the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and the Ministry of National Education.

"Urgent" Ruling and Its Impact on Rankings The Ankara Administrative Court has placed this case on the agenda with an "urgent" code. If the court issues a "stay of execution" (Yürütmeyi Durdurma), ÖSYM will be obliged to revise the rankings of all 2,425,000 candidates without including GPA scores or by using a new formula [1]. Educational experts warn that such a change could shift the rankings of some candidates by as many as 20,000 places.

Ambiguities in Exam Questions; Added Pressure on ÖSYM In addition to the OBP case, this year's exam has been accompanied by other controversies. Reports published in media outlets such as Halk TV and Milliyet indicate widespread protests against two specific questions in the Literature and Mathematics sections [3]. An error in the name of a character in the novel "Handan" by Halide Edib Adıvar and ambiguity in one of the mathematical derivative questions have led many candidates to demand the cancellation of these questions. However, the OBP case is considered a greater threat to the stability of the results due to its structural nature.

Next Steps and Result Announcement Date While ÖSYM had previously announced that results would be released in July, any judicial ruling could delay this educational calendar. Education officials have not yet issued an official reaction to the possibility of ranking changes but emphasized that all processes were carried out according to current laws [2]. Everyone is now waiting to see if the court will rule in favor of "equality of opportunity" or prefer the stability of the current system.

Millions of YKS candidates await the final court decision regarding the 2026 rankings.
