The Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Erciyes University (ERÜ) celebrated the graduation of 500 students for the 2025-2026 academic year in a grand ceremony. This event marks a turning point in strengthening human resources for Turkey's strategic aerospace projects.
Ceremony Held at Erciyes Cultural Center On July 2, 2026, the Erciyes Cultural Center (EKM) hosted an enthusiastic ceremony for the graduates of the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics. During the event, attended by Professor Doctor Fatih Altun, Rector of Erciyes University, Colonel Hasan Şimşek, Deputy Director of the 2nd Air Maintenance Factory, and Professor Doctor Nafiz Kahraman, Dean of the Faculty, 500 students received their diplomas [1]. This ceremony was not only the end of a rigorous academic period but also the beginning of these young specialists' entry into global markets and sensitive defense industries.
Emphasis on the Vital Role of Youth in Defense Industries In his speech at the ceremony, Professor Doctor Fatih Altun emphasized Erciyes University's academic standing as a "global research-oriented university." Referring to Turkey's stunning progress in the defense industry, he addressed the graduates: "Turkey's defense power is evident to everyone today, but to sustain and strengthen this power, we urgently need your expertise and efforts as young people" [2]. He also noted that a degree is only a beginning, and continuous learning and updating knowledge at an international level are keys to success in this field.
Aviation: A Symbol of Independence and National Power Professor Doctor Nafiz Kahraman, Dean of the Faculty, described aviation and space technologies as the most strategic fields determining the independence and competitiveness of nations. Referring to the "National Technology Initiative," he emphasized that the graduates of this faculty will play key roles in important projects such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and satellite systems [3]. By training 500 new engineers and specialists, the faculty will make a significant contribution to meeting the human resource needs of major companies such as TUSAŞ and Baykar.
End of an Era and Start of a National Mission In the final part of the ceremony, Murathan Çataloluk, as the top-ranking student of the faculty, nailed the commemorative plaque onto the graduation log. This long-standing tradition in Turkish universities symbolizes the permanence of the graduates' names in the university's academic record [1]. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to top students and the traditional tossing of caps into the air amidst the cheers of families and professors. These 500 young specialists are now ready to put their knowledge at the service of the country's skies and beyond.
