In a new move to strengthen the bond between science and production, Uşak University and the Uşak Organized Industrial Zone (UOSB) have agreed on a joint roadmap. This collaboration aims to transform academic knowledge into industrial products.
On July 19, 2026, the city of Uşak hosted one of the most important strategic meetings between the academic and industrial sectors. Uşak University, led by Rector Professor Doctor Ahmed Demir, and the Uşak Organized Industrial Zone (UOSB), led by Halil Ağaoğlu, attended a joint meeting to create synergy and solve production challenges [1]. This event, held under the slogan "Union of Industry and Academy," sent a clear message for the region's economic future: science and industry are no longer two separate islands.
Details of the Joint Industry-University Meeting During this meeting, attended by UOSB board members and University Secretary General Bülent Şahin, both parties emphasized the need to update previous cooperation protocols. Professor Ahmed Demir noted that Uşak University, with its strong technical and engineering faculties, is fully prepared to meet the technological needs of factories located in the industrial zone [2]. He added that the main goal is to create an innovation ecosystem where theoretical ideas are rapidly converted into industrial prototypes.
Focus on Research, Development, and Industrial Innovations One of the main axes of this discussion was strengthening Research and Development units within the industrial zone. Given the rapid technological changes in 2026, Uşak industries need to utilize artificial intelligence and advanced automation to compete in global markets. In this regard, it was decided to form joint working groups between university professors and industrial engineers to work on projects reducing production costs and increasing energy efficiency [1][3]. These collaborations could turn Uşak into one of the industrial innovation hubs in western Turkey.
Job and Internship Opportunities for Students Another part of this agreement was dedicated to the professional future of students. Based on the understandings reached, Uşak University students will henceforth have broader access to long-term internship programs in UOSB production units [2]. Halil Ağaoğlu, Chairman of UOSB, emphasized that regional industrialists are looking to recruit young, specialized personnel familiar with the real work environment. This educational model, called "on-the-job training," minimizes the gap between graduates and the labor market.
Economic Development Outlook in the Uşak Region At the end of this meeting, both sides agreed to continue these sessions periodically. The tangible results of this cooperation are expected to be seen in the coming months through joint projects at "Uşak Technopark" and an increase in the export of high-value-added products [1]. This strategic link not only benefits the university and industry but also contributes significantly to the growth of Uşak province's Gross Domestic Product by creating sustainable employment and attracting new investments.
