In a cultural event held today, July 8, 2026, in the city of Yozgat, Turkey, a group of international students was introduced to the traditional art of "Ebru" or paper marbling. This program is part of a summer school initiative to promote the artistic heritage of Anatolia.
Ebru Art Workshop at Bozok University Today, July 8, 2026, the city of Yozgat witnessed a unique artistic gathering. Within the framework of the "Turkish Language Summer School 2026" program, organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, international students residing in this city were introduced to the traditional art of "Ebru" [1]. This educational workshop was held at the Scientific Communication Office of Yozgat Bozok University, organized by the Turkish Language Teaching Center (TÖMER), so that foreign students could connect with the artistic soul of this land in addition to learning the language.
Practical Training Under Experienced Instructors 14 international students from 10 different countries attended this event. The training for this workshop was led by "Hamide Soysal Demirci," a lecturer at the Yozgat Vocational School [2]. In this session, students first learned about the rich history of Ebru art, which is also registered on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Then, they were taught techniques for using traditional tools such as brushes made from horsehair and rose stalks, as well as how natural colors interact with thickened water (tragacanth) [1].
Cultural Diplomacy Through Color and Water Many of these students, holding a brush for the first time, described the experience of colors dancing on the water's surface as "magical" and "relaxing." In Islamic and Turkish culture, Ebru art is not just a painting technique, but a symbol of patience, balance, and submission to the beauties of creation [3]. Holding such workshops in Yozgat demonstrates Bozok University's efforts to become a cultural hub where foreign students act as cultural ambassadors, carrying their experiences back to their home countries.
Summer School 2026 Programs The Turkish Language Summer School program, which began on July 6 and will continue until July 31, is not limited to classrooms. Students participating in this course will also visit historical sites and natural attractions in Yozgat province and surrounding areas, in addition to the art workshops [2]. The ultimate goal of this program is to strengthen language skills alongside a deeper understanding of the lifestyle and traditions of the Anatolian people, of which Ebru art is one of the most brilliant parts.
