Following diplomatic efforts to develop regional cooperation, a high-level delegation of Iranian economic activists visited the Ağrı Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AĞRI TSO) to examine ways to expand trade exchanges and remove transit obstacles at the Bazargan-Gürbulak border.
Joint Meeting at the Ağrı Chamber of Commerce On June 12, 2026, a delegation consisting of businessmen and economic representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived in the city of Ağrı in eastern Turkey. The delegation was welcomed at the Ağrı Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AĞRI TSO) by local officials and economic activists of the province. The main objective of this visit is to examine new investment capacities and resolve logistical problems that traders from both countries have faced in recent months [1].
During the meeting, both parties emphasized the need for maximum utilization of border potentials. Ağrı province plays a vital role in the East-West corridor due to its proximity to Iran and hosting the Gürbulak border terminal. The President of the Ağrı Chamber of Commerce noted during this meeting that strengthening relations with Iranian delegations could lead to economic prosperity for both regions [2].
Modernization of the Gürbulak Border Terminal and Transit Facilitation One of the key axes of the talks was the status of modernization and development of the Gürbulak border terminal (bordering Bazargan). Given the modernization projects that have intensified since last year, the Iranian delegation called for the acceleration of customs processes and a reduction in truck waiting times at the border [3].
Ağrı Chamber of Commerce officials announced that with the completion of new infrastructure, the capacity to accept heavy vehicles has increased, which can significantly reduce international transportation costs. This issue is of strategic importance for Iranian merchants who use this route to access European markets [1].
Bilateral Trade Outlook and Removal of Banking Obstacles In another part of the meeting, the issue of removing banking obstacles and facilitating financial transactions between the traders of the two countries was discussed. The Iranian delegation, referring to the $30 billion target for trade exchanges between Iran and Turkey, emphasized that border provinces like Ağrı should be the drivers of this economic movement [2].
Both sides agreed to form joint working groups to accurately identify administrative and customs obstacles so that operational solutions can be presented in future ministerial-level meetings. It was also decided to hold joint trade fairs in the cities of Ağrı and Tabriz to introduce the products manufactured by both countries [1][3].
