In the Karabük University (KBÜ) Senate meeting chaired by Professor Fatih Kırışık, the institution's significant achievements in the 2026 international rankings and new strategies to become a leading research-oriented university were discussed.

The Karabük University (KBÜ) Senate meeting for July 2026 was held in the university conference hall, focusing on academic performance and scientific production. Chaired by Professor Dr. Fatih Kırışık, the meeting outlined the university's future roadmap to enhance its global and national standing [1].

Significant Rise in Prestigious Global Rankings One of the most important topics of the meeting was the review of the university's recent successes in international ranking systems. The Rector, Professor Kırışık, announced that Karabük University jumped 112 places in the URAP World Ranking compared to last year, rising from 1841st to 1729th [3]. He added that the university currently ranks 39th among all Turkish universities and 33rd among state universities. Furthermore, in the QS Europe 2026 rankings, Karabük University improved its national position from 38th to 35th, solidifying its place among the top 580 universities in Europe [2].

Establishment of the Student Council and Strengthening Participation In an innovative move, for the first time in the university's history, a "Student Council" was formed and held its first meeting. This council will serve as a consultative mechanism to convey students' opinions, suggestions, and demands directly to the university management [1]. Professor Kırışık emphasized that this new structure strengthens the link between the administration and the student body while increasing transparency in decision-making.

KAPGEM Policy Reports and Technology Development The Public Policy Research and Development Center (KAPGEM) presented three new strategic reports at the meeting: the "Healthy Life Policy Report," the "Local-Central Disaster and Emergency Management Model," and the "Alternative Curriculum Proposal for Faculties of Theology" [3]. Currently, 174 academics and experts are developing public policies across 35 specialized desks at the center. Additionally, extensive cooperation with the Central and Western Black Sea Technopark Union was approved to develop joint technology and innovation projects [1].

Focus on h-index and Quality of Scientific Production The Rector emphasized the importance of the h-index in academic visibility, noting that the primary goal is to increase the quality of scientific publications and presence in high-impact international journals [2]. He stated that by relying on original research and international collaborations, Karabük University seeks to achieve the status of a world-class "research-oriented university" to join the top 500 universities in the world in the coming years [3].
