On July 10, 2026, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) became the center of global scientific attention. By hosting the 'Convergence of Continents' event within the framework of the Netnocon World Conference, the university gathered elites from across the globe to examine digital transformations.

Convergence of Cultures and Knowledge in Izmir On July 10, 2026, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) hosted an exceptional event titled 'Convergence of Continents.' This gathering, held as part of the 'Netnocon 2026 World Conference,' attracted over 100 academics and students from 6 different continents and 20 countries to the coastal city of Izmir [1]. Organized in collaboration with the Netnographic Research Association and with the strategic support of the Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGİAD), this conference represents a significant step toward strengthening the university's international standing.

Focus on 'Cultural Intersections' in the Digital World The main theme of this three-day conference was 'Cultural Intersections.' Participants explored the 'Netnography' method, which involves the deep analysis of human community behavior and cultures formed within the context of the internet and social networks [2]. Notably, this year's conference coincided with the 30th anniversary of the invention of the netnography method by Rob Kozinets. This method has now become a key tool for understanding human interactions in cyberspace, and Izmir's hosting of this event demonstrates Izmir University of Economics' leadership in modern scientific discourse [1].

Scientific Diplomacy and Scholarships Professor Dr. Sema Misci Kip, Co-chair of the conference and faculty member at the IUE Faculty of Communication, emphasized the importance of this event in introducing the city of Izmir and the university to the global stage [2]. She noted that the presence of researchers from the United States, India, Brazil, Australia, and Europe has provided a unique scientific richness to the meeting. Additionally, on the sidelines of the ceremony, scholarships were awarded to 20 doctoral students who presented top papers and research, providing practical support for the next generation of researchers [1].

Izmir: A New Hub for International Meetings This event is only part of the extensive international activities of Izmir University of Economics in July 2026. Earlier in the month, the EWIS 2026 workshop was held at the university with 450 international academics, addressing topics such as climate crises and food security [3]. The recurrence of such large meetings indicates that Izmir is rapidly becoming a global hub for knowledge exchange and educational diplomacy. The Rector, Professor Dr. Yusuf Hakan Abacıoğlu, believes these collaborations will form the foundation for joint international projects in the near future [3].
