Turkish student teams supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) achieved a unique double success, securing top titles at prestigious global competitions in South Korea and the United Kingdom.
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) announced today, July 10, 2026, the significant success of its supported teams in two international arenas. These achievements in South Korea and the United Kingdom once again proved the technological and scientific capabilities of Turkey's young generation on a global scale [1].
High School Success at RoboCup 2026 South Korea The "DOLLBY" and "OGEE" teams, composed of elite students from the TÜBİTAK Science High School (TÜBİTAK Fen Lisesi), participated in the RoboCup 2026 world championships held in Incheon, South Korea. These teams competed in specialized categories including "Rescue Simulation" and "Infrared Soccer" [1][2].
In the SuperTeam Challenge, the Turkish students collaborated with teams from other countries to secure second place in the world by presenting smart strategies and precise programming. Due to its high technical standards, this competition is considered one of the most prestigious robotics events globally, and winning a title demonstrates the students' high mastery of artificial intelligence and mechanics.
Special Award for Çukurova University Drone Team in the UK While the high schoolers were shining in Asia, the "1,5 Adana UAV" student team from Çukurova University brought honor in Europe. Participating in the IMechE UAS Challenge held in the United Kingdom, the team received the prestigious "Most Promising Team" award [1].
This competition, which focuses on the design and construction of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), hosted top engineering teams from around the world. The Turkish team attracted the attention of international judges with an innovative design and demonstrated system stability during test flights. This success reflects Turkey's significant progress in the aviation and drone industries, starting from the university level.
TÜBİTAK's Role in Supporting Young Talents TÜBİTAK has played a key role in deploying and preparing these teams through its international event participation support programs. By providing financial facilities and scientific consultancy, the organization paves the way for young talents to appear on global stages [2].
TÜBİTAK officials congratulated the students, emphasizing that these successes are the result of long-term planning in basic science and engineering education. Previously, students from various regions of Turkey, including the Ereğli district, had performed exceptionally well in domestic TÜBİTAK competitions, showing the proper distribution of scientific opportunities across the country [3]. These dual victories in July 2026 will provide additional motivation for other young Turkish researchers to step forward in the "National Technology Initiative."
TÜBİTAK-supported teams brought honor at RoboCup 2026 in South Korea and the UK Drone Challenge.
