With the official announcement of June inflation rates by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the salary increase for millions of civil servants and retirees for the second half of 2026 has been determined, creating significant changes in public livelihoods.
Today, July 4, 2026, with the finalization of economic data for the first half of the year, the Turkish government announced new salary increase rates for public sector employees and retirees. This decision, directly influenced by inflation figures released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), will take effect from the beginning of this month [1].
Inflation Rate and Salary Increase Calculation Basis According to the official report from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the inflation rate for June 2026 was announced at 0.99%, bringing the total inflation for the first six months of the year to 17.76% [2]. Accordingly, the increase rate for Social Security Institution (SSK) and Bağ-Kur retirees has been set exactly at the six-month inflation rate of 17.76%. However, for civil servants and public sector retirees, this figure was calculated as 13.52%, including the inflation difference and the collective bargaining agreement rate [1][3].
New Salary List by Occupation With this increase applied, the salary table for many key professions has changed. According to data from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the net salaries for some job categories are as follows: - Teachers (Grade 1/4): Their salary increased to 83,254 Lira. - Police Officers (Grade 8/1): Their new income will be 92,618 Lira. - Specialist Doctors (Grade 1/4): Their salary reached 170,730 Lira. - Engineers (Grade 1/4): Their new wage is set at 109,185 Lira. - Nurses (Undergraduate, Grade 5/1): Their income increased to 84,845 Lira [2].
Minimum Salaries for Retirees and Employees One of the most important parts of this announcement is the determination of minimum payments. The minimum salary for a civil servant (including family allowance) increased from 61,890 Lira to 70,224 Lira [1]. Additionally, the minimum pension for public sector retirees reached 31,527 Lira. Regarding SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, the minimum pension is expected to increase from 20,000 Lira to 23,552 Lira upon the approval of a new bill in parliament to maintain the purchasing power of this group against inflation [3].
Legal Procedures and Payment Schedule To implement the increase in minimum retiree pensions, a bill has been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, which is expected to be approved in the coming days. Salary differences and new amounts will be deposited into beneficiaries' accounts starting from the second half of July. Economic experts believe that while these increases compensate for part of the inflationary pressure, controlling annual inflation, which currently stands at 32.11%, will remain the government's main priority in the second half of 2026 [2].
New salary increases in Turkey will take effect from the second half of 2026.
