As the major exam marathon in Turkey approaches, the country's Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) has announced the exact timing and response durations for all three stages of the YKS 2026 exam to clarify the competitive process.
Structure and Timing of YKS 2026 Exam Sessions
According to the latest announcement from the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), the national university entrance exam (YKS) in 2026 will be held in three separate sessions on June 20 and 21 [1]. The first stage of this exam, known as TYT (Basic Proficiency Test), will begin on Saturday, June 20, at 10:15 AM, and candidates will have 165 minutes to answer the questions [2].
On the second day, Sunday, June 21, two other exams will be held. The morning session is dedicated to the AYT (Field Proficiency Test), which starts at 10:15 AM and is the longest session with a duration of 180 minutes [3]. The afternoon session belongs to the YDT (Foreign Language Test), which begins at 3:45 PM and has a set duration of 120 minutes. In total, candidates participating in all three stages will complete a marathon lasting 7 hours and 25 minutes [2].
ÖSYM Entry Rules and Time Restrictions
One of the most important points emphasized by ÖSYM is the "15-minute rule." According to this rule, the doors of the examination centers will be closed at exactly 10:00 AM for the morning sessions (TYT and AYT) and at 3:30 PM for the afternoon session (YDT) [3]. Candidates who arrive at the exam venue even one minute late will not be allowed to enter the session according to strict regulations [5].
Candidates are also required to bring their exam entrance document, which can be obtained through the AIS system, along with their original valid identification on the day of the exam [1]. The center recommends that applicants be present at the exam center at least one hour before the start of the exam so that the physical search and identity verification process can be carried out without stress.
Candidate Statistics and Final Results Date
For the 2026 exam, more than 2,425,000 people have registered for the first stage (TYT), indicating very intense competition for university seats [4]. Among these, approximately 1.6 million people will compete in the AYT exam and more than 203,000 in the language exam (YDT). According to the published official calendar, the final results of this academic marathon will be announced on July 22, 2026, through the official ÖSYM website, after which the department selection process will begin [1].
The Turkish Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) released the timing details of the three stages of the 2026 YKS exam for over 2.4 million candidates.
