Following a new wave of Iranian missile and drone attacks on several regional countries in July 2026, the governments of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Jordan issued sharp statements strongly condemning these actions.

On July 12 and 13, 2026, the Middle East witnessed one of the most serious military tensions in recent years. Following an exchange of fire between United States and Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz, several Arab countries were targeted by missile and drone attacks, prompting a coordinated and sharp response from regional capitals [5].

Sharp Reaction from Qatar and the UAE to Sovereignty Violations The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an official statement, strongly condemned the Iranian attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and Oman. Abu Dhabi described these actions as a "clear violation of the national sovereignty" of brotherly nations and a direct threat to regional security and stability [1]. Simultaneously, Qatar, which was directly targeted by some of these projectiles, announced that its air defense systems successfully intercepted the targets, although falling debris resulted in the injury of three people, including a child [5]. Doha considered these attacks an explicit violation of the UN Charter and the principles of good neighborliness [1.2.1].

Firm Stance of Egypt and Jordan Regarding Escalating Tensions Egypt also joined the critics, issuing a statement through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calling any justification for these attacks unacceptable. Cairo emphasized its full solidarity with the Gulf countries and Jordan, calling for an immediate halt to escalatory actions [3]. In Amman, the capital of Jordan, officials reported that at least three Iranian missiles landed on its territory, causing minor damage [4]. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called this action a dangerous violation of international law and emphasized the right of regional countries to defend their territorial integrity [4].

Roots of the Crisis; From the Strait of Hormuz to Confrontation with the US This wave of attacks began after the United States, in response to an Iranian attack on a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, bombed more than 140 targets inside Iranian territory [5]. US President Donald Trump announced that these attacks were carried out to weaken Iran's ability to threaten international shipping [5]. In contrast, Tehran claimed that its attacks on "enemy" bases in the region were a legitimate response to American and Israeli aggression [1.4.2].

International Support for Regional Countries In addition to Arab countries, the European powers known as the E3 (United Kingdom, France, and Germany) also issued a joint statement condemning Iran's attacks on commercial vessels and regional countries, including Qatar and Jordan [2]. These countries called for an immediate return to the negotiating table and the establishment of a ceasefire to prevent an all-out regional war [2]. Currently, diplomatic efforts mediated by Qatar and Pakistan to revive the June security memorandums are ongoing [1.1.3].

Military tensions in the Persian Gulf have led to the formation of a united diplomatic front against Iran's actions.
