The University of Turkish Aeronautical Association (THKÜ) has entered a new phase of scientific development and student exchange by joining the international Erasmus+ INSPIRE project consortium. This move strengthens Ankara's position in modern aviation education.
Today, June 29, 2026, the University of Turkish Aeronautical Association (Türk Hava Kurumu Üniversitesi) officially unveiled the details of its participation in the international INSPIRE project. This project, supported by the European Union's Erasmus+ program, is designed to link academic education with real-world needs in the era of Industry 4.0 [1]. This strategic move transforms the Turkish Aeronautical University into one of the innovation hubs in the region.
Introduction to the INSPIRE Project and Strategic Goals The INSPIRE project, which stands for "Innovative Solutions for Pioneering Entrepreneurs in Industry 4.0," has commenced its activities with a budget exceeding 250,000 Euros [2]. The project, which kicked off in December 2025 and will continue until the end of 2027, focuses on the development of digital skills, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data analysis. The main objective is for students to acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also the ability to implement entrepreneurial projects in the real world [3].
International Collaborations and the Role of the Aeronautical University As one of the key partners in this consortium, the University of Turkish Aeronautical Association operates alongside universities from Italy, Greece, and Lithuania. The main coordination of this project is handled by Osmaniye Korkut Ata University [2]. The first international meeting and training program for this project was held from June 23 to 30, 2026, in Foggia, Italy, during which a team consisting of 75 students and professors from different countries exchanged knowledge and experience [1]. These collaborations allow Turkish aviation students to keep pace with European educational standards in the field of advanced technologies.
Project Achievements for Students and the Aviation Industry One of the important outputs of this project is the development of a training package including 20 specialized modules in the field of digital entrepreneurship and Industry 4.0. Additionally, students participating in this scheme will prepare prototypes of their innovative products to present to investors [1]. For a university whose primary expertise is aviation and space sciences, integrating these digital skills with technical aviation knowledge could lead to the emergence of powerful startups in the fields of drones, intelligent navigation systems, and flight data management.
Future Outlook: Aviation in the Digital Age The management of the University of Turkish Aeronautical Association emphasized that the INSPIRE project is only the beginning of a long path toward further internationalization of this educational center. By creating an international entrepreneurship network that will continue to operate even after the project's funding ends, Ankara students will be connected to global labor markets and European investment networks [3]. This project proves that aviation in 2026 is no longer limited to flying, but is a complex combination of artificial intelligence and digital entrepreneurship.
